Public Service

The Public Service Department, consisting of six divisions, values and strives to best serve the residents of the City of Lansing by maintaining key public infrastructure and services.

The 6 divisions of the Public Service Department include:

  • Operations & Maintenance

    is in charge of trash and recycling, maintenance of streets, sidewalks, signs, flood control, and sustainable forestry and winter response.
  • Engineering

    plans, designs, constructs and maintains streets, bridges, sidewalks, bike facilities, traffic signals and sewer and flood control systems.
  • Wastewater Systems

    collects, pumps, processes and treats the City's wastewater.
  • Business, Permits, & Technology

    provides administrative support, budgeting, traffic advisories, issues all public service permits and performs inspections on these permits.
  • Property Management

    operates and maintains all City owned buildings and facilities and provides support for special events.
  • Fleet Services

    maintains the City's vehicles (police cars, fire trucks, etc.) and heavy equipment.
